Book: The Un-United States of Z (Book 1) by V.H. Galloway

V.H. Gallowayabout this book: Like many stories, this book was written in answer to a question. For me, the question was: If you were to write a novel about zombies, what would you do differently. And for many months, I ruminated on that question. Though I didn’t have a fully fleshed out outline, I knew that I wanted the zombies to have a story. A real story. A year and many drafts later, that’s what I had.
Prior to and during the writing of this novel, news and events centered on race and class in America. The violence, the hate, the misinformation. Yet beneath all that, love. These themes weaved themselves into the narrative in a way that surprised even me. You see, I have a confession. I don’t outline. I’ve tried and will likely try again, but haven’t gotten the hang of it yet. At any rate, like my other works, I sit at the keyboard and let the story come to me organically everyday.
I’m quite proud of the way this novel (and the two subsequent parts of the trilogy) turned out and hope that through this story, readers will begin to ask their own questions, challenge themselves and those around them. And boldly embrace the change that comes with it.
