D. L. Gardnerabout this book: Pouraka is a magical sea cavern that keeps it's mermaids and mermen safe from the encroaches of mankind. Protected by the little village of Barnacle Bay, Pouraka mers are more fortunate than others. When Tas, a merman from the south arrives as a refugees with his family from less fortunate waters, Cora and her people from Pouraka take them in. But mers are not the only ones who travel north. A certain unscrupulous oil rigger's son has caught wind of mermaids in the waters by Barnacle Bay, and he plays his hand at cashing in on them. When Tas is captured with a net of dolphins, he's taken to a holding tank in the southern districts. Cora, armed only with the magical waters of Pouraka, sets on the long journey to find him. During her absence, the cavern itself is endangered and survival of any and all mers depends on Cora, Tas, and the cavern itself.
