Des Birchabout this book: Of all the books I have written, Beyond Dark Waters is the one of which I am most proud. Having raised my children on my own through a time when it was unusual for fathers to do so, I have learnt much from them and from their young friends. I love to guide and educate young minds and I have written Beyond Dark Waters as an adventure tale for young people, encompassing many of the challenges they will meet in life and comparing how other creatures would view each predicament. I have used my love of nature, my science degree and my experiences with young people to build an adventure that will both teach and entertain readers, tackling subjects such as racism, drugs and friendship.
I was fortunate enough to have been awarded the ePublisher's Writers Award of Merit for this book. Here is an extract from the awards committee:
• ... It is rare to find a book that can be highly recommended by many. Beyond Dark Waters goes beyond this expectation and should be mandatory reading for all people."
• Patrick D of Texas wrote:
Prolific! ... There is such a strength in this story that will make you wonder how our culture would be different if this book were mandatory reading in the classroom. Make this one of the important books to read in your lifetime.
I believe that the messages in this book are important enough to warrant consideration for promotion in every kind of media, including film and television, for today's developing minds make major decisions in the future.
