Book: Poojamma - The Woman who Redefined Womanhood by M C Rajcategories: Book, Untouchability, Dalit, Caste, Unity, Politics, Women
M C Rajabout this book: "Poojamma" is a woman centric novel skillfully woven by Nina, an American journalist who is Poojamma's close friend. The heroine is the epitome of indomitable womanpower. The intricacy of the novel further develops with Kala, the prodigy of Poojamma's who joins her as a maid but grows monumentally to carry forward the legacy of the woman who made her mark in history. It is a mystery why such a good woman who is hell bent on changing caste discrimination and bringing about unity among the village people is pursued everywhere, haunted and hunted down till she is bombed by her political enemies. As the government machinery is reluctant to get deep into the murder plots, Nina determines to nail the culprits and leaves no stone unturned till she succeeds. Even as the courts are ready to send the culprits to the gallows Kala stuns everyone by standing against death sentence. That is what she understood by carrying on the legacy of Poojamma.
With skillful character building the author dishes out hitherto unknown truths about Dalits to international as well as Indian readers. A win-win novel for all types of readers! A rollercoaster ride of fictional intricacies awaits readers. I have been involved in the life struggles of the untouchable people in India and some very interesting incidents needed to be captured by our imagination. The Dalit women who took up leadership in many of our struggles and the leadership of my wife in all such struggles provided the impetus to write this novel. All those who are interesting in the leadership of oppressed women across the world will be the readers of this novel. It took three months to write this novel. The veneration that people accord to my wife in the villages is the substance of this title. This cover was specially designed by my son just for this novel. The strong woman is at the same time full of love and care. This was a smooth writing all the way. I used my travel to Thailand and Germany as the research materials. Be part of women liberation. Be a feminist even if you are a man.
