Elaine Naylorabout this book: Anita Richardson is fighting fifty, a mid life crisis, fears for her own mortality and an array of pre-menopausal symptoms she can't control. With her retired husband distracted by his gambling business and shunned by the man at work Anita believed to be her destiny, she welcomes a secondment opportunity to work from the South West office for 6 months. Had Anita foreseen the turbulence that fate had in store for her life, she would stayed in Liverpool.
Although I have been writing Anita Richardson stories since I went to night school 15 years ago to study creative writing, it was my own pre-menopausal experience that inspired me to write and publish a story based on the tribulations associated with reaching this age milestone. My goal was to show the vulnerabilities and desires for Anita Richardson as a vibrant middle aged woman.
I wrote this book with middle-aged woman in mind, however a number of men with wives of a certain age have given encouraging feedback having read the book themselves.
This book took me two and a half years to complete. With both my parents deceased I wanted to capture a little of my life in the book. I recalled a happy childhood memory in New Brighton and gave one of the characters my father name and the nose hair episode included in the story is based on a real event and is why I chose to add it to the title.
Since I've published the book many people I know have shared their own aspirations to write a story, that is why I set up my website. I wanted to show how an ordinary person, who works full time, could fulfil their dream. Like most experiences in life, when you reflect you learn so much. From that perspective I updated my website with tips and frustrations as I wrote my second book.
Fighting Fifty, Hot Flushes and Nose Hair is about workplace confrontations, friendship, romance, love and hurt and how 50 can be the beginning of a new chapter in a woman's life.
