Jenny Gillabout this book: Number 7 in The Southhill Sagas, set in Surrey to the south of London, although each book stands alone.
Annie, is a single mum, struggling to make ends meet when suddenly her life changes – dramatically. It is as though she has rubbed an Aladdin's lamp and all her wishes, even those she didn't realise she had, are coming true. It all seems a bit too good to be true, and she tries to find a reason, but her family and friends pooh-pooh her doubts and tell her just to enjoy her good fortune while it lasts. And it's not just Annie who is enjoying good fortune.
I got the idea from a snippet I heard on a TV programme, about people seeing lights in the sky, which were reflections from low clouds and thinking they were UFOs.
Does this story have a touch of the supernatural, as Annie thinks, or is it just her over-fertile imagination, as her friends think? You decide. Smudge, Annie's cat who spreads her favours around the neighbourhood, was a real cat – the rest of the story is fiction.
