Book: Free to Be Tegan - Free from the cult...to find love, to be herself by Mary Grand
|4.7 stars based on the 3 most helpful Amazon reviews|
Mary Grandabout this book: Tegan is suddenly alone, in London, and does not know what to do or where to go. Aged 27, she has been cast out of a cult, the only way of life she has known, rejected by her parents. She knows nothing of the world outside, except that she has been taught to fear and abhor it.
This is the story of her journey, how she travels to relatives she has never met in the Welsh Cambrian Mountains, where she struggles to adjust to what for everyone else is ordinary life. Along the way she stumbles, finds out things she never knew about her family and herself, and gradually begins to discover who Tegan Williams really is. The story is ultimately powerful, uplifting and inspiring.
The book is aimed at women readers, but a glance at the reviews at amazon.co.uk will show the breadth of readership and the effect the book has had on them.
This is Mary Grand's first novel. She has had a career as a teacher of the Deaf and now lives on the Isle of Wight. She was born and brought up in Wales, visits regularly, and spent an enjoyable week in the Cambrian Mountains with her husband and cocker spaniel Pepper while researching the locations for the book. She has also published a book of four short stories, Catching the Light, which is available at amazon. She is working on her next novel, set on Wales' beautiful Gower Peninsula.
