Barry James Hickey about this book: Mystery, intrigue and suspense surround Katie Jones at the fabulous Windamere Seaside Resort in San Diego when she decides to start an employee rowing team to fix company morale. It seems that everyone wants her to fail, even her rowing teammates, a handful of wretched, bitter women. And then there is the twisted and sick manager from hell - Simon Simples. He'll do anything to make her dream collapse. Anything.
I used to watch rowing crews in Los Angeles and San Diego and became fascinated by the sport of crew rowing. I've slept in hundreds of hotels, watching the sad faces of disillusioned employees struggling to survive with tense smiles on their faces, a facade for the guests. The cover captures the reflection of the ocean, the alluring bronze just after sunset. Learning about competitive team rowing, every facet of running a luxury hotel, and French cuisine was an anjoyable journey. Recognizing and writing about the instilled anger of minorities and immigrants was a strenuous challenge.
