Philip G Henleyabout this book: A virus threatens and then overwhelms humanity and mammals. Starting from the disease's discovery and the Government's reactions and plans, the story takes us through the first few months and then onwards into how the survivors cope.
They try to rebuild some aspects of society but reject others. There are very few of them and their first task is to find each other and then learn to live with each other all the while the fear of succumbing to the illness sits in the background.
The book was created following my dissatisfaction with catastrophe and dystopian fiction. There are no zombies or aliens and no secret government organisation to rescue anyone. Research was mostly carried out on the highly technical issues around the virus and genetic diseases. Additional research was carried out on power systems, renewable energy, and locations. I wanted to write a fairly emotional story that would upset some readers. I was torn on the level of explicitness in some of the scenes, but this is not a children's tale.
