Brenda Coffmanabout this book: Jesse is angry and bitter towards the world. He has a lousy job in a small town in Kansas. Because he has committed a murder in his past, Jesse is convinced he is beyond redemption and destined for Hell. He bemoans the fact that if he would have died before commiting that sin, he would have ended up in Heaven.
In a twisted way, Jesse decides to start helping people by killing them before they have a chance to get corrupted by evil. As bodies fall he raises the suspicions of the townsfolk, including Plainville's oldest resident, Nigel Dristol, who just happens to be a vampire.
I loved writing the townspeople in this book. The story in itself is intriguing, but the variety of side characters that are involved are as compelling as Nigel and Jesse. If you have lived in a small town, you can definitely relate to some of the backyard politics going on in this book.
I almost died when I was 25, and I often wondered if I was a better person then than I am now. If I had died at 25, would my soul be better off than it is now? What if Hitler died at 16, would he get into Heaven? Jesse is having the same doubts about the fairness of being allowed to live long enough to hang himself.
