Leah Reiseabout this book: There's something wonderfully liberating and rewarding about telling a story. Not only does it allow you to create your own imaginative reality and share it with the world; it also gives you a voice, one that is heard by others. You can leave an impression with written words that people may take with them forever, something that can even be life changing.
This is why I write. I love to reach people, to connect, to inspire, maybe give some peace of mind, or even a new experience—take them on a journey they would never have imagined in their wildest dreams. Leaving an impression in the minds of others is what inspired me to write my debut novel, "The Beauty in Darkness: A Vampire Story." You might think, "Why write about vampires if you want to help people?" Well, I find that most of us love a good fantasy, and a place where we can lose ourselves temporarily. A place where we can escape to, but also a place we can bring with us when we return to the real world. When I wrote my story, I wrote about my dreams, and the dreams of others. Real people.
"The Beauty in Darkness" was inspired by true events, only made into a vampire story. It is about the interconnected journeys of two estranged sisters, Edrea and Rena, encompassing the hardships that many siblings can relate to. With these sisters, you can travel through an eerie quantum world of both life and the undeath. It is a story about love and loss, guilt and insecurity, passion and romance, and of course, fear, cruelty, and the dark secrets that most people hide away and run from—the painful things that turn us dark and bitter when not confronted. I wrote a story about the chaos of life and the journey of self-discovery. And especially a journey about finding light amidst the gloom.
We all seek peace and happiness, but we forget that life is imperfect and chaotic. We forget that there must be a balance. A perfect happiness doesn't really exist, but even amidst the darkest times, we can find a light within each other, one that will make life a little easier. That is what my book is about. It's a different kind of vampire story, one that everyone can enjoy. And it was quite the joy to write. I really hope that everyone enjoys it, and that they can take something from it that will bring a little more joy into their lives.
