Book: Things You Need to Know About Your Thyroid - (but nobody tells you) by Bette Dowdell
|4.7 stars based on the 3 most helpful Amazon reviews|
Bette Dowdellabout this book: The thyroid gets no respect. Hardly any attention, either. Which is strange since your thyroid plays a leading role in good health. If your thyroid goes down, so do you. Slowly, but surely, fatigue sets in, your eyes get puffy, your body gets pretty puffy, too, as weight piles on, and your brain gets unreliable. And on, and on, and on.
Life with a messed-up thyroid doesn't even come close to being a walk in the park. It's a struggle--from the rising of the sun to the going down on the same, you're fighting to make life normal.
Unfortunately, most of what doctors know about the thyroid is wrong. Thyroid blood tests are unreliable, and when your test comes back "normal," the doc doesn't consider the fact you're all but comatose on the floor to be a thyroid-related problem.
And if your blood test comes in low, you'll get a prescription for a medication, Synthroid, or one of its ugly generic cousins, that doesn't work. Except to make blood tests look good; you're still in the ditch.
But if your blood test comes in high, you'll be told your thyroid needs to be taken out. Excuse me, but we don't come with spare body parts.
Read this book to understand where you are, what you can do about it, and how to protect yourself from less-the-optimal medical care.
