Book: Sufficient Ransom - A Novel by Sylvia Sarno

Sylvia Sarnoabout this book: In my debut mystery/thriller, a mother's search for her kidnapped child takes her into an underworld of Mexican drug cartels and the fringes of evangelical Christianity.
When I was a young girl living in 1970's Italy, kidnapping was a big topic of conversation. A high-profile kidnapping in Rome had spooked parents so much that some of my Italian classmates started coming to school with bodyguards. I remember my own parents' fearing such a terrible thing happening to me and my sisters. Years later, when I became a mother, these buried feelings from my childhood inspired Sufficient Ransom.
But I didn't want to write just another kidnapping story. I wanted my story to offer more food for thought, so to speak. So I combined an imperfect mother's perspective (aren't all we moms imperfect!) with my interest in religious issues. I worked hard to create a fast-moving story that posed an ethical question. The result, my editor tells me, is "commercial literary" fiction. I think her insight sums it up.
I hope this books inspires people to see what's important in life, to realize that they are stronger than they realize, and to stop and think before taking action in difficult circumstances, even when your emotions are pulling you in the opposite direction.
ForeWord Clarion Reviews says about Sufficient Ransom:
"The role of religion in tragic circumstances is given a well-crafted twist in this intriguing thriller."
"Readers who are intrigued by the role religion plays in tragic circumstances will be interested in this book, as will those who enjoy fast-paced thrillers."
I hope you enjoy my first novel. If you have time to write a review on Amazon, I would love to hear what you thought of it!
I am currently working on a second novel set in World war II Italy. I expect to complete it by the end of the year. Stay tuned ...
