Helen J. Christmasabout this book: 'Beginnings' is the first book in a series titled 'Same Face Different Place' a thrilling and romantic saga set across 4 decades of British culture. This first book of the series is a fast paced thriller set in the dark criminal underworld of 1970s London, of two young people caught up in a sinister conspiracy. 16 year old Eleanor Chapman has no idea her father is employed in a world of organised crime until the day he is forced to go on the run, leaving her to the mercy of dangerous people. Jake meanwhile, has a contract on his life - he was the one vital witness to a scene which led to a horrific car bomb which killed a British politician. Those responsible now want him silenced.
This book is an intense thriller, but at its heart lies a love story. The idea came to me as I wondered, what must it feel like to fall in love, knowing that somewhere out there a lethal contract killer is hunting you and that time could be running out? Well, things certainly become very heated for Jake and Eleanor - but their powerful love bond will keep you turning the pages as you relive their journey for freedom; to escape from London with the hope they may someday reach Jake's homeland in Holland.
Writing this book was an adventure as I relived their story and emotions. It was a journey which took me to the End of London and to Holland. One reviewer described my characters as being 'like real people' another reported 'they really began to care for them.' But the biggest compliment I get, is that this is one book which is 'impossible to put down' leaving fans hankering for the next one. Book 2 - 'Visions' is currently (october 2012) in progress and due out very soon. I don't want to reveal to much - but like the first book there are some chilling twists which no-one will expect!
