Gervase T.M. Shorterabout this book: 'A Feeling in my Bones' is my third novel, a thriller set mainly in England. Its narrator is Sally Forrester, who is an attractive woman but not a karate black belt or a crack shot with a Glock. She's just someone like you or me. Her husband is a business consultant who disappears while doing an assignment for a reclusive American millionaire. He resurfaces suffering from a breakdown but in the meantime he's become seriously rich – and his relationship with Sally has lost its warmth. As they get used to a new lifestyle Sally becomes increasingly suspicious about the source of her husband's new wealth and quite by chance discovers something that makes her flee for her life to Rio de Janeiro (where I happen to live).
The story turns on a detail that I cannot reveal without spoiling the novel. It's something that really does happen. In fact I know some people who were involved in exactly what I describe in the book. I spent a long time thinking of the various ways in which this detail could be used as the basis for a thriller opting for one that would let me write about the nightmare a woman is bound to feel when she harbours suspicions about a husband she's in love with.
