B.L. Wilsonabout this book: I wanted to write a story of addiction from an addict's point of view. I wanted to explore what it felt to want and need that special "something" above all else in your life. To obtain that "something," I wondered what it would be like to be willing to do anything. To possess "it", you lie to your best friend and you end up friendless. You risk the career you love so much and you end up jobless. You steal from your daddy and you kill your mommy and you end up alone.
Then one day after being sick and tired of being sick and tired of yourself, you finally do something. No, you don't kill yourself or anybody else, although you certainly have thought about it. Instead, you decide to seek help but you have major doubts that anybody can help you with "it."
Breaking away from that something is very difficult for you. After all, you've been living with 'it' for so long your addiction has become a part of you like your toes or your fingers or your ears. You've slipped back into old habits with that "something" too many times to count. One fine day, you think you've finally conquered your desire for "it" and so you go back to your old life. You seek out friends and family that disowned you and apologize. You try to go back to work and ask for your job back. Will you succeed? Can you stay away from your addiction and still have a good life?
