Chantelle Atkins about this book: The book is about a young boy called Danny, who has just moved to a small seaside town with his single mother, and older brother. On the run from her ex-boyfriend turned stalker, Danny resolves to scare off any men that his beautiful mother attracts, joins forces with the local misfits and troublemakers, and finds himself in constant trouble. A blossoming music fan, who fears he will never be able to listen to ALL of the music, Danny falls for the girl who lives in the nice part of town, and continues to fight and cause trouble, until he finds himself in a position where adults do not believe a word he says. There is another voice in the story; Lee Howard, local nightclub owner, powerful, controlling, addicted to violence...Danny finds he has met his match when his mother falls for Howard, and his life begins to spiral out of control. Told from both points of view, we follow Danny's story as his home life becomes increasingly brutal, and the one person who stands up for him, is disposed of as a warning to others. Set against the backdrop of a small council estate in the early 1990's, we travel with Danny on a journey of musical discovery, from grunge, to Britpop, and beyond. Should he give Howard what he seems to want? A good boy, a good son, who will follow in his footsteps? Should he fight back, remain true to himself, and allow his friends to save him? Or should he escape? This is a story about one boys struggle to survive, his obsession with music, first love, fighting back, escape, and the best friends in the world who would do anything to save you...The title many will recognize as a song by The Smiths...it seemed very apt considering the main characters dilemma, and love of music. I think young adults and adults would enjoy this book, and I think readers who also love good music would also find themselves pulled into Danny's world.
