about this book: What is the book about? The book takes place over the course of a blustery Saturday in Hibbing, Minnesota. The year is 1988. Two teenage boys, Taav and Sebastian set out to find a favorite VHS tape. Along the way, their drug fueled behavior thrusts them and their friends into a world of small town secrets, drug dealings, and brushes with the local law enforcement. Take a nostalgic trip back to the 1980's in pre-cellphone, cassette tape world populated by heavy metal listening slackers!
Why I wrote the book? The book, though a work of fiction, is loosely based off my experiences growing up in Hibbing, Minnesota in the late 1980's. I had an idea for the book rolling around in my head for about twenty years and finally found the time this last summer to put it down on paper. I did the book mainly as a challenge to myself to see if I could actually commit to finishing it. The book took around five to six months to complete. This being my first novel, I found that the hardest part was structuring and editing it. The plot points evolved as I did my outline. I had a good time developing the plot. I attempted to keep the book moving along at a decent pace. I wanted it to be a quick, whimsical read.
The Books Title: Since Taav and Sebastian are two "stoners" who attend Hibbing High School and the plot involves drugs and drug dealers, I went with "The Hibbing High."
