David Turner about this book: When I tell people I'm into Argentine Tango, they laugh or snort or think I'm weird or special. It's simply because their minds immediately leap to thinking about stage shows with leggy girls in split skirts or bizarre images of Brylcreemed lotharios with roses between their teeth. They think of sex. They think of sharp head movements. In fact, they think of all sorts of things entirely unconnected to Argentine Tango. I think of elderly couples in Buenos Aires, walking elegantly in each others arms, as they had done all their adult lives, to superb music that will survive for all time. I taught tango for many years and came up against so many misconceptions, it made me weep.
I wrote the book, "A Passion for Tango" to try to dispel some of those myths and this small Kindle work is another attempt to swipe away the nonsense. It's pithy, straight-forward and probably a bit provocative. I may not please some people by what I say, but I do hope I open a few eyes to the wonderful reality that is Argentine Tango. It has revolutionised my life, by showing me how even I can express my self, unselfconsciously in dance. Viva el Tango!
