Jinx Schwartzabout this book: Let's just start with the title of this book, and there is no better place than the definition of Just Deserts, along with an old warning Hetta Coffey never heeds.
Desert: Pronounced dessert; what you justly deserve.
"Upon a pillory-that all the world may see, A just desert for such impiety."—Warning Faire Women, 1599
When we are not on our boat in Mexico, we live within firing range of the Mexican border, but are surrounded by Border Patrol agents, the best private guards your tax dollars can buy. Thanks, my fellow Americans!
Since book four finds Hetta high and dry on that very border, I decided on a title with a double entendre, never dreaming I would get so many corrections. I've been told: the title is misspelled; I'm pronouncing the title of my own book wrong; and what did the book have to do with cake, anyhow? Just kidding, I made that last one up.
Hetta, with her boat in dry dock, takes a job at a northern Mexican copper mine to help pay for boat repairs and, typically for her, lands in the middle of a dustup involving a smarmy mining exec, a human smuggling ring, some druggies, and a terrorist or two.
The good news is that Hetta has her guns back.
And, she serves up some Just Deserts.
