David Stearmanabout this book: Hummingbird took over a year to write. Little research was required since I'd spent so much time in the locales visited in the story itself. Tropical Mexico's kind and generous people have taught me much about the language and local culture. The landmarks, cities and villages, hotels, and even the specific hotel rooms in this story are all real, (except for the protagonist's home town of El Nido.)
I did perform considerable research regarding legal, police, drug, and immigration issues, including a number of personal interviews.
In the end, I believe Hummingbird tells the accurate and encouraging tale of a young girl's rise from a Southern California ghetto to a fulfilling and significant life on Mexico's beautiful shores.
If you feel lost in life, discouraged and in need of inspiration, I think this story might give you hope.
A few reviews:
• David Stearman's debut novel, Hummingbird, knocked my socks off. To be honest, I bought it because I know the author and wanted to support him. Was I in for a surprise. He grabbed me from the first sentence and held my attention all the way through. This book has everything I like. A mystery, suspense, some humor, wonderful scenery imagery, delightful characters and great sleaze-ball bad guys. Now I'm hoping for a sequel. I'd recommend this book to anyone. Read it. You won't be disappointed.
• A captivating story that powerfully portrays the themes of justice, mercy, forgiveness, and redemption. Believable characters and storyline that will keep you turning the pages. Highly recommended.
