C. Edward Baldwinabout this book: I started writing Fathers House the last week of my mom's life. Of course, I didn't know she was dying. I only knew that she was sick. She was in the hospital after having surgery to partially amputate her left foot. She had diabetes. I'd always known that I wanted to be a writer. But like a lot of writers I was held back by fear and self-doubt. But in the summer of 2009 I decided to give it yet another go.
So as I sat by my mother's bedside I started writing the first lines of Fathers House. A week later, my mom died. Her last gift to me was a determination that I would finish Fathers House, come hell or high water. In my mind it was the last link to my mother. It took me four years, but I finished the story. My mother will forever live on in my heart and in the words that I will continue to write. Thank you, mom. I did and will always love you.
