Daniel Allen DuBourabout this book: The Gold Scalpel is a story about a medical center that rewards it's surgeons with an award called the gold scalpel. The award goes to the surgeon who has performed the most surgeries in one year. In my story, the award is given to the main character. The owner of the medical center and CEO takes a liking to this particular surgeon and allows him special favors as well as promoting him to the position of chief surgeon of the medical center.
The surgeon in his unscrupulous ways finds a way to receive payments for every surgery performed at the medical center even those surgeries performed by other surgeons. His wife has her plans as to what to do with this windfall but he has plans for a bigger house and more.
Somewhat an adult novel do to the fact of some sexual activity, however can be read by seniors in high school or older. The story includes greed, deceitfulness and malpractice. The surgeon notifies the head of the emergency room to call him if a patient arrives with any questionable problem that may require possible surgery. A he exam the patients when he is called to the ER; and without question recommends some kind of surgery. B If he is unable to perform the surgery do to his schedule, he assigns another surgeon on staff to perform the surgery receiving all the benefits as if he did the surgery.
Spending long hour at the medical center, he finds other ways to entertain. The CEO, who has become very attracted to him, calls him to his office for a martini and a little pleasure. Although he enjoys the attention, he finds he needs more; and so he gets himself involve with one of the nurses.
A patient of his dies, another patient signs himself out AMA, and it's all downhill from this time on for this unscrupulous surgeon.
