Stephen L. Braytonabout this book: How many people have heard of shadow creatures? Have you ever seen a shadowy form lurking at the foot of your bed or outside your window? What if those shadows were alive?
This is what Des Moines homicide detective Harry Reznik and FBI agent Lori Campisi must contend with when shadows start murdering metro citizens. Teaming up they not only must deal with divergent personalities, heinous murders, each battle personal issues – Harry has a newly pregnant wife and Lori suffers from amnesia that robs her of memories before age twelve.
There is a little mystery and a lot of supernatural horror. I conceived the idea after listening to a radio program that discussed shadow creatures. Plot and characters fell easily into place and the fun part for readers is that the places I use are real. I may change the names of locations and businesses, but the sites are real.
The one sticking point when writing this book was I needed to find a place for the dimensional portal from which the shadows arrive. I searched for months and learned about an art exhibit in one of the buildings housing an insurance company. My writers' group reserved a tour and visited the exhibit. It's a real place and I knew immediately it would work for the story. It's a creepy place all on it own, but add some scary creatures...
