Dr. D. Treadwellabout this book: "SUCCESS: There Is No Secret" is about responding to that yearning deep inside that is challenging you to do something you have not done before. To step out on faith and denounce fear and self-doubt. It is about focusing on your desires, asking for what you want and working for what you need. Where there is life, there is hope. This book encourages the reader to never give up hope. It is a reminder that we are meant to have a life that is enriched, joyous, content and fulfilled. It solicits a healthy perspective of optimism and realism in the quest to achieve and succeed.
Over the years, I recall having seen numerous books with titles that state or insinuate that there is a secret to success. One day, I overheard someone recommend to a friend to read a book with such title. Suddenly, as though a light came on, I thought, "Success, there is no secret. God wants us to have our heart's desires. And He owns it all. There is no secret! I visualized people scurrying around, looking for the proverbial secret and there is none. Their time could be more wisely spent diligently seeking their success.
This book is for everyone who has a vision, dreams, aspirations, passions or heart's desires. Your socio-economic background, family history, education level, is not a matter. For those who feel there is a purpose on their life and they hunger and thirst to fulfill it, this reading will encourage, guide and enlighten them to move forward.
I envisioned the cover in the instant that God gave me the title. It was not to be busy, gaudy or complicated. The cover was to be a reflection of the content message; simplistic and direct. Remembering that the shortest distance between two points (where you are and where you desire to be) is a straight line, so was my approach in sharing a message.
The hardest thing about writing this book was shifting from the format and creative free-flow of writing stage and screenplays to writing material that is very straight on and concrete. The other challenge was searching and using appropriate and applicable scriptures as a foundation to what I was writing about.
The research that was a part of the development of this book was drawn from my doctoral dissertation. My dissertation topic related to the experiences of academically successful college students. A commonality among 98% of the participants that I surveyed and those discussed in my literature review revealed that faith in a higher power, spirituality, was reported as being a very strong contributor to their success. This faith continued to be present in their professional success as well. In addition, I interviewed numerous individuals of various educational and professional backgrounds to learn their definitions of success and if they felt they were successful at present.
I learned so much from writing this book. Primarily, from a sound foundation, that God wants so much for us to have all that we need. He wants to bless us with the desires of our heart. All He asks is that we seek Him first, honor and worship Him. Give thanks for what He blesses us to have and that we make sure that our blessings will be a blessing others.
To everyone who reads this book, regardless of what your faith or religion may be, I am confident (in my higher power) that you will find something in the content of "Success: There Is No Secret," that will benefit you in your move forward in every aspect of your life.
