Melody Clarkabout this book: A gay steampunk mystery from Melody Clark, the author of "A Revolutionary Romance" and "Defining Moments": Disease is rampant in Victorian England. They face many social maladies, chief among them disease and ignorance. Victorian England's secret weapon is Professor Shamus Bead, the Royal epidemiologist. When children die of a paralytic illness, Bead, and his friend and associate, Dr. Jeptha Lawton, are called in to find the reason. The evidence leads them to a creepy photographic artist and his weird take on memento mori, Victorian death memorial photography. Following that trail, the Professor and Doctor discover an even more horrific plot.
This book marks the first in a series of Shamus Bead mysteries following this unique gay detective and his partner through one mystery after another. The concept is to embrace and explore the themes we are dealing with in the 21st century. The author hopes to continue the series for as long as her readers wish to read them.
