Helen Macie Osterman about this book: Song of the Rails is about a woman finding the courage to escape a loveless, abusive marriage and rediscover herself. I wrote this book because, in some aspects, it mirrors my own life.
The book appeals primarily to women, but, I have received e-mails from men who loved it, too. I chose the title because my character, Eve, meets a man later in life who lives 300 miles away. They maintain a long term relationship by travelling back and forth. This very thing happened to me. The cover is a picture of the Amtrak train that takes me and my significant other on such a journey. We have been doing this for fifteen years.
The most difficult part of writing this book was reliving some of the pain that I went through. I shed many tears in the writing and so do my readers. I feel that, if I can convince one woman to leave an abusive relationship by reading this book, I will have accomplished my goal.
