Greta van der Rolabout this book: Long after Humankind was brought to the brink of extinction in the Cyber Wars, humans use machine intelligence in a very different way, ensuring the machines never become aware, and a threat, again. Supertechs - specially modified humans with supercomputers embedded in their brains - control all the machines and design new ones, under the watchful eyes of minders.
Morgan Selwood is a supertech. Although she has a supercomputer in her brain and her eyes can connect with any data source, she's all woman. Her story started in the novella "Supertech". In this book, she's older and wiser but just as feisty and just as unforgiving.
When the shift drive in their space ship fails, Morgan and accountant Tony Jones find themselves lost in space, way beyond inhabited planets. Their only chance of survival is to be rescued - but that in itself is a scary business.
Their rescuers are humanoid, obviously a branch of humans but their history is unknown, even to them. Morgan clashes with arrogant, autocratic Admiral Ravindra, who recognises her incredible abilities and wished to use them for his own ends. But Ravindra has enemies who also want Morgan's services.
At the end of the day, she'll have to choose - Morgan's Choice.
