Book: The Slave Master's Son by Tiana Laveen

Tiana Laveenabout this book: The Slave Master's son is a period piece. It begins, pre-civil war, and ends right after. In the mist of this strife in our country, a romance blossomed between children who lived under the same roof, but shared two different lives. One was the son of a wealthy slave master, and the other, a young slave girl who's very best friend was this skinny, lanky pale boy, by the name of John.
It delves into the taboo issue, of consensual interracial relationships between slaves and their white counterparts. I take a look at the reality of this - that these relationships did in fact exist and not only that, families were created and nurtured. During this difficult time in American history, love still found a way to blossom, and that is what this book explores for the reader.
I did a lot of research for this book, some of which some readers found unbelievable however - everything I put in there regarding lingo was in fact true. Regardless, this is a romance novel and it was very difficult to write, due to the sensitive nature but I felt it was an important story to tell, and I am glad I did just that.
