Book: Salted Lithium - A Short Story (Red Shorts Series) by Karen Jungcategories: Book, Fiction, Suspense, Amnesia, Bipolar, Relationships, Hastings, London, Short Story
Karen Jungabout this book: Salted Lithium was inspired by a documentary I saw many years ago when I still lived in Germany. It was about a man who woke up on a train in New York and didn't know how he got there. My story is different from the documentary I saw back then, but it has these elements of 'not knowing' and 'confusion'. I thought of different settings, but kept coming back to this image of an American road movie.
I wrote this short story two years ago and I remember being torn between holding back and blaring it all out. There is a fine line and if the story leans towards one of the two it's bound to go wrong. I think it's important to trust yourself and your reader when you write a story. I want to figure out things for myself when I read a story. I love these moments of surprise or disbelief, when I manage to link all the hints in a story together and see the whole picture. I have learned a lot about myself and about writing within the last two years and knew which aspects of the story I had to work on and improve when I read it again after all this time.
