Book: Close to the Bone by Lucy Taylor

Lucy Taylorabout this book: CLOSE TO THE BONE is a collection of short stories about sex, death, and obsession, about insanity, vengeance, and addiction to the people who cause us pain.
It's also, of course, about love--the love that drives a pro wrestling groupie to go to unspeakable lengths to get the attention of the object of her desire; the love of a mother for the exquisite erotic being who instructs her in the fine art of torture; the love of a young woman who grew up in a house underwater for the solace of the familiar--no matter how hellish the familiar might be.
In one way or another, the stories here are all close to my heart. I grew up Southern Gothic-style in Richmond, Virginia, where etiquette and decorum were paramount, and reality was an ever-changing storyline shaped to fit the requirements of the moment.
And love? It generally came mislabeled and with a hefty price tag.
As Lisa, the narrator of the title story puts it, "Love don't have just one face to it. Love has more masks than Mardi Gras and more ways to make pain that a schoolyard full of demons."
Read CLOSE TO THE BONE and find out what she's talking about.
