Hettie Ashwinabout this book: This collection of short stories delve into the minds of murderers and lovers, ordinary people with ordinary lives or extraordinary circumstances and lets the reader experience every emotion in between.
From unrequited love, to the loss of a child, a family secret and an epiphany for a middle aged woman the stories have depth and leave a lasting impression upon the reader.
How can one cigarette change a persons outlook? How does a child deal with the death of her grandparent? What is it like to get a job after your husband dies? These are just some of the ordinary dilemmas faced in After the Rains.
There are a variety of styles. Monologues bring the voice into a personal intimate experience and third person gives more scope to see the whole story unfolding.
Quite a few of these stories have been published on line and in print. One or two of the monolologues have been broadcast on radio and made into podcasts. The collection was brought together over a number of years to be enjoyed in one volume.
