Sue Howarth about this book: We wrote this book about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in and out of school, for teachers and pre-service teachers of 3-18 year olds; also for others interested in how these subjects can work together for students, such as STEM ambassadors, STEM consultants etc. The history of 'STEM'in the UK is described, as is how to set up and successfully run a club in school that belongs to the STEM family. Loads of ideas for in and out of classroom activities are given, along with ideas for trips and coverage of health & safety issues. Careers in STEM are discussed and how to promote them. Many schools could always do with more funding and resources, and ideas are provided about how to get and make the most of funding opportunities and of resources. Examples of international STEM projects are included and a long list of ideas for projects makes up the last chapter. One reviewer said that this is a 'rich compendium of ideas' and that seems a very fair statement. We enjoyed writing this book as we could draw on our years of experience in schools and in teacher-training. We also provided our own photos, including one of the authors on the Amazon with their students on a memorable field trip.
