Katy Krumpabout this book: I'm an alien, yes, really, so understand the challenges of being in an unfamiliar place and not knowing how to survive. Having left my home planet for pastures new, I decided to write a blog to try and make sense of it all. That blog morphed into Blue Dust: Forbidden.
It's sci fi with a bit of thriller, paranormal and love story too, so it's multi-genre - a bit like life. Qea is a teenage girl with secrets, secrets that could kill her. She's an alien from the Qarntaz Octad, sent to earth to hide from a warlord she's betrayed. Back home she's spent her life in hiding because she's Forbidden, and should have been killed or sold at birth. Why? Because the law allows only two children per family.
On Earth Qea meets a boy, Adam, and like all teenagers in all worlds, she falls in love, but when he finds out the truth about her, they're pulled into a terrifying adventure back in the Octad, the place she fears more than anywhere else. Will Qea find her own humanity or will she abandon Adam in order to survive? And what about him? How DO you survive when you're kidnapped by aliens? As the landscapes and beings of the Octad threaten their lives, Qea and Adam must learn fast, or die.
Blue Dust: Forbidden was nominated for the Costa Book Awards in 2013.
• 'I would describe it as a roller coaster adventure ride through fascinating alien worlds - it was hard to put down!' — Bookworm
• 'Can't wait for the next book. What I loved most about this book is it's `heart', although it is very adventurous and set on alien planets (very exciting, and page turning, what an imagination Katy Krump has), it is really about a girl finding out who she is.' — Mehitabel
