N.M. Lombardiabout this book: Following in the thematic footsteps of N.M. Lombardi's short science-fiction tale, Glitch, The Golden Hour revisits a accessible parallel universe where advanced artificial intelligence is commonplace.
Claire Blandy is staring down the golden years of her life, and still bitter about the shelved passions of her youth. She's less than thrilled when her daughter surprises her with a used android, Andrew, to help around the house, but eventually decides he's good for washing dishes and walking around the house naked to entertain her friends.
When Claire discovers that Andrew is facing his own imminent mortality, however, she's spurred to take him on a cross-country journey to find and revisit the families that once knew and loved him, as well as live out some of the untapped passions of her youth.
The Golden Hour was a challenge to write, in that it couldn't be a downward spiral of sadness. Coupling fiesty, sharp-tongued Claire with sweet, modest Andrew allows the book to have moments of both levity and reflection, never tipping the balance too far in either direction.
