Book: Slinger - The Equilibrium of Stars by Ben Lyle Bedardcategories: Book, Western, Bollywood, Gunfight, Space, Spaghetti Western, Science Fiction
Ben Lyle Bedardabout this book: Ideas come to me fragmented. The idea of Slinger was actually three vague ideas. I wanted to write a science fiction book. I wanted it set on a planet, and I wanted it to focus on poor people. I didn't want it to be flashy and clean with bleach white hallways and sparkling starscapes. But nothing attracted my attention enough to write. I also wanted to write a western, something gritty and full of conflict and struggle, violence and love. I wanted a character like the spaghetti westerns I loved as a kid: cool, smooth, and indestructible. But nothing really seemed interesting to begin that book. Lastly, I wanted to write a book something like a Bollywood film, where a long-suffering heroine goes through a set of increasingly difficult trials. These ideas bumped about in my head for a long time before they did something interesting. They coalesced into an idea for one trilogy. This is the Slinger Trilogy: a science fiction story whose spaghetti western protagonist was inspired by Bollywood films. She's sleek, cool, beautiful. . .and deadly.
Welcome to Damodara. Welcome to the world of the Slinger.
