Glenn Soucyabout this book: Blood Tithe is about a five year old boy, Jeremy Davis, who falls into an old and forgotten tunnel, which was flooded and left over from World War II. During the big war the Germans were trying to create the Master Race. America wasn't about to be outdone, so they were attempting to do the same thing, but by altering peoples' DNA. Over the decades, the left behind chemicals have only gotten stronger.
Jeremy is rescued, but his body, rejects his skin as his DNA is changed. It takes an entire summer to heal. Afterwards he notices that he can hear heartbeats from a distance, feel sap moving in trees. Best of all, he can gather energy from every living thing and use it in amazing ways. However, this only frightens his mother. Now he struggles to gain her affection again.
Something different about this book is that I was stationed at Loring AFB and the tunnels, buildings, old underground post office and the commissary are real. I got to explore them before the base was closed down. It really helped to put the story together.
