Book: Sarah's Spaceship Adventure (Mackenzie's Rock) by Stan Morriscategories: Book, Romance, Space Faring Society, Young Adult, Science Fiction
Stan Morrisabout this book: For a long time, science fiction books have focused on vast interstellar phenomena, or some form of science fantasy. I wanted to write a book that focused on a space faring society in one solar system. Sarah's Spaceship Adventure is that book. It is the first of what I hope are many books describing a solar system with two planets and a humongous assortment of inhabited asteroids (the Hoop.) This is the world of Mackenzie's Rock, the asteroid around which the other stories revolve.
Sarah's Spaceship Adventure is the story of an older teenage girl who sneaks out of her house one night to take a quick suborbital jump with a boyfriend. Because of misfortune and fortune, Sarah sets off to the Hoop with young trader and encounters danger, adventure, romance, and strange cultures. It is aimed at the YA group which I define as between 16 and 24, but I hope that older readers of science fiction and romance will enjoy it also.
This book took about nine months to write and the research I had to do was not easy, for though I love the idea of a space faring society, I am not well versed in the math of orbital physics. But writing this book gave me some excellent opportunities to consider how the mechanics of space living might work. There are moral messages in this book, as in all my books, but more importantly, there are situations that I hope will cause the reader to consider what they would do in that place. I hope you enjoy this book.
