Gary Startaabout this book: What if your essence and your mind could be downloaded into an android? Would you miss your flesh, or would you find intrigue in having a stronger body?
When a colonization goes awry, a scientist is forced to consider downloading minds into androids to save the mission. But at what cost? What will happen when the next group of humans comes to the planet? Choosing not to tell the travelers, can the secret be kept hidden?
This idea fascinated me to write a novel about my love, robots. Inspired by everything from Isaac Asimov to a robot made in the image of Scarlett Johannson, I believe this novel will make you think twice about how you view yourself and other sentient life forms. If we embrace our humanity, just what makes us human? In essence, what are you made of?
Readers may be interested to know that a follow up book, Gods of the Machines, further explores our differences and prejudices when the first murders occur on Ceres and a detective finds he can't help but accuse an android despite the evidence.
