L.E. Thomasabout this book: I have always loved writing and have created stories and articles ranging from nonfiction to short stories to novels. But I have forever been drawn to the adventure stories of when I was a child. The daytime replays of John Wayne classics, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars shaped my dreams more than anything else. I loved adventure so much that I created my own role-playing game with my friend called "Star Runners." I always wanted to create fun stories, adventure tales, exciting fantasies that would make the reader feel like I did when I first saw the boulder chasing Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark."
This desire led me, in part, to turn the role-playing game into the novel "Star Runners." It is a tale of a high school boy on the verge of graduating who has not discovered his true purpose in life. Through his performance on a popular online video game, he is recruited by a mysterious school and given a new and exciting chance for an unexpected journey.
I have mentored a young boy for several years. When I first met him, his only joy was video games—reading was not a part of his hobbies. It was difficult to understand because I spent most of my childhood in the library, checking out stacks of books I could barely carry out the door. Disturbed by his lack of interest in reading, I asked him if he would read a book that I wrote just for him. He said he would, so I took his love of video games and tried to write a story he would enjoy. With the support of my wife and family, I published "Star Runners" and have loved hearing from readers who have also enjoyed this young adult story. My favorite emails have been from younger readers who have wanted to know more about the Star Runners universe.
In the future, I hope to continue writing fun escapes and continue to spread the love of reading. I heard once a life without books is not worth living. I agree.
