Lawrence S. Wittner about this book: This novel provides an over-the-top satire about the commercialization of modern university life. Filled with colorful, offbeat characters, "What's Going On at UAardvark?" is also a tale of love and rebellion, and says much about broader currents in American society. At the heart of the novel is a plot by leaders of the military-industrial complex to cover up news of a nuclear weapons explosion.
The book is based on my 43 years of full-time teaching at colleges in the United States and abroad. Currently, I am Professor of History emeritus at SUNY/Albany, as well as the executive secretary of the Albany County Central Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.
An award-winning author, I have written eight other published books and edited or co-edited another four. All of these, however, were scholarly historical studies. "What's Going On at UAardvark?" is my first work of fiction. The most difficult aspect of writing the novel is the fact that reality in the United States has become so strange that it is hard to surpass it with satire.
