Book: The Essential Little Safari Companion by Steve Foremancategories: Book, Africa, Camping in Africa, Off-Road Driving, Wilderness, Survival, Wilderness First Aid, Mountain Climbing, Trekking, Expeditions, East Afric, African Wildlife, Safari
Steven Foremanabout this book: This handy little book is an ideal companion for anyone going on safari or planning a camping trip or more serious expedition in Africa. Of course, you could be going on a safari organised by a tour operator... but even so, it is handy to know how to prepare, what to take, and what to do if things go wrong.
Some folk who have moved to Africa to work or live, NGOs for example, are tempted to jump into their brand new (or not so new!) four-wheel-drive and head off onto a safari in the wilds. Fair enough... but this book will tell you all you need to know before you go... and also what to expect and how to conduct yourselves while out in the bush. There are sections on vehicles, camping equipment, first aid, trekking and walking safaris, wildlife confrontations, and so on.
The book is packed with information, guidelines and checklists - but is small enough to go in a glove compartment or rucksack
Don't leave home without it!
