T.M. Learabout this book: The Last Night is about a woman who makes a mistake so terrible, she feels as if the only way to recover is to pack up and leave her entire life behind. And that's exactly what she does. She starts a new life in a new town and finds a semblance of content. One day, a man from her past shows up at her door and he throws her life into pure chaos. She has to face the mistakes of her past, and acknowledge the consequences that resulted. As she digs deeper and deeper, she learns that her memories of the event are wrong. She has to confront the ghosts of her past, and figure out what she wants for her future.
Most of my writing ideas stem from a single thought or occurrence. For The Last Night, that idea was: what would you do if you found out you were basing all of your life decisions on misinformation? There are so many questions that stem off from this. What was the misinformation? Why is it affecting you so much that you can't put it behind you? How does finally finding out the truth change your future decisions? There were so many directions I could've taken the story; so many sub plots to the complex situation. This story was easy to write, and it was so fun to explore the different sides to a complicated history.
The mistake my character made was ongoing and done over time. But the real consequences, the real devastation, all occurred on one night. And that night is when everything changed for her, hence the title. There is romance, elements of suspense and plenty of scandal. It was a joy to write, and I hope it's a joy to read.
