Sydell Voellerabout this book: The Fisherman's Daughter is based on the desperate search to find an elderly fisherman who disappeared from his boat--with plenty of sweet romance and intrigue threaded throughout the story. The heroine, Vanessa Paris, learns about her father and rushes to her childhood home on the San Juan Islands to help find him. Here she unexpectedly meets her secret love from high school, Lowell Maxwell, who is on leave from his work as a L.A. police officer. Sparks fly, and their mutual attraction sky-rockets as Lowell helps Vanessa search for her father. And now he is no longer just a high school crush from the past, but a hunky, ruggedly handsome cop who appears to be driven by a dark secret.
In the story, there is also a humorous romance in progress between an older couple who live on the island. I hope their lighthearted bantering will maker readers smile. On the balance, not only is this story dark and mysterious, but it's balanced it with a good dose of fun and warmheartedness.
I became inspired to write this book after vacationing in the beautiful San Juan Islands off the coastline of Washington State. While staying at a fishing lodge much like the one Vanessa's parents own and operate in the story, the muse struck. A good-looking guy living on his sailboat, the mystery of the pristine sea and surrounding forests, the unique people who inhabited the island, plus the golden opportunity for romance--all these elements spoke to me--no, nagged at me--until I finally sat down to write this romantic intrigue novel.
