Julie Farrellabout this book: Ruby in the Dust is an uplifting, romantic comedy, set in the sleepy town of Maidenhead.
It's been three years since Alex graduated, and he's now drinking too much and wafting around like a nomad. Nicky is the owner of local café, Ruby in the Dust, where Alex finds himself one morning, whilst recovering from a motorcycle crash the night before. He immediately falls for Nicky, and wants to help her make the failing café a success - to prevent her nasty landlord from shutting down this oasis in the town.
Nicky is protecting a secret that she's been carrying around since childhood. She can't bear to let Alex beyond the barbed wire surrounding her heart, but with gentle persistence, he aims to charm her and save the day!
Julie Farrell grew up in Maidenhead, where, as a teenager, she loved mooching around the independent bookshops and record stalls, uncovering treasures to profoundly influence her adolescent mind. When she moved back a few years ago, she realised that Maidenhead, like most modern towns, was changing. The corporate coffee shops and discount stores dominated the High Street, and the independents had all closed down. She realised that we need a balance of traditional and modern values in our lives, so she decided to write a book about it! Ruby in the Dust is that book.
• 'This book had me laughing out loud... it's a sweet romance and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys chick lit.'
