Stephanie C. Harteabout this book: BRICK LANE east-end pub-share is a wider lens look into the life's of eight completely different individuals living above a derelict pub in the east end of London, England.
It is set in the now colourful and vibrant multi-cultural melting pot of Brick Lane. Which is just around the corner from Whitechapel, where the infamous 'Jack the Ripper' murders took place. As well as being the stomping ground for the notorious, 1960's Kray Twins organised crimes took place. After looking into the history of the area with it's wonderful history, which includes a roman burial ground as mentioned in the book and the famous British people that have come from it's quarter. I decided it would be a good backdrop in which to set the book.
The book itself is a light-hearted and in places comedic look at the Seven Stars derelict pub (still vacant on Brick Lane) and eight people who live communally above it. All from different backgrounds and walks of life.I wrote it for myself, because I find people's individuality and quirks on the best way of surviving life and the slings and arrows it throws interesting. I work with a variety of people in my working life and have taken some of their characteristics for the characters in the story. It is an easy read and quite short. It took me nine months to write, in a process where I am continually learning the art of the craft. It might suit a reading audience who are interested in a small part of London life or people who just enjoy reading about people. Readers may well be able to identify with some of the situations the characters in the book have to endure and overcome. As well as enjoy the story along the way.I chose and designed the cover because all of the street art you see on it can be found throughout the streets in and around Brick Lane. It is a very interesting place. As are the characters in the pages.
