Book: HOW TO CHOOSE A SWEETHEART by Nigel Bird
|4.7 stars based on the 3 most helpful Amazon reviews|
Nigel Birdabout this book: It might be rare, but meeting someone and falling for them at first sight really can happen. It's why I wrote this book. I saw her, I tried to win her over and I failed and the bones of the story were formed as a kind of wish fulfillment...if only life were like the movies.
In How To Choose A Sweetheart, the main character is still licking his wounds following the demise of a long-term relationship. When he sees Cath, posting an advert in the bookshop for a piano teacher to work with her young daughter, he doesn't waste a moment before getting in touch. It's not long before he finds himself in the position of being a piano teacher, the only problem being that he can't play the piano.
The audience for this book might be lovers of old films or more contemporary ones such as the wonderful Notting Hill. They may love books like One Day or High Fidelity, I Don't Know How She Does It or Woody Allen. It's moving, funny and entertaining.
To quote and Amazon Top 1000 reviewer in the UK:
• 'It is light, witty and very well-written, but with enough of an edge to it to raise it above the ordinary.'
or an Amazon Top 500 reviewer in the UK:
• 'It's a thoroughly enjoyable feel-good book which I had recommenced to me and which I heartily recommend in my turn.'
or an Amazon Top 50 reviewer:
• 'a cracking little read!'
In the end, I found my wife, but I've never forgotten the time I was bowled over by a single parent and hope that some of the energy and passion of that time is brought to you in this novel.
