Book Review: Lessons Learned (The Appalachian Heart Collection) by Sydney Logancategories: Book, Social Issues, Appalachia, Romance
Sydney Loganabout this book: My debut novel, Lessons Learned, was inspired by my belief that you can remain true to your own personal beliefs and values and still be respectful of others.
My favorite books are sweet, realistic romances that tug at heart strings. I love strong heroines who rise from the ashes and men who absolutely adore the women they love. Sarah and Lucas are kindred spirits, both running from their pasts and eager for a fresh start in a secluded town. For Sarah, it's a homecoming. For Lucas, it's culture shock.
For the setting of the story, I chose a fictional town in the Appalachian Mountains called Sycamore Falls. Like most small towns in the Southern US, the mountain town is a very tight-knit, conservative community. This becomes very important in the telling of Matt's story.
As much as I love romances, I didn't want to write just a love story. There is such an epidemic of hatred in our world, so I used Matt's story to show the kind of intolerance that is rampant in our society and what can happen when we don't do enough to protect our children.
I hope you enjoy.

Sweet and GenuineThe thing I loved about this book was how I could relate to the characters. Their struggles and their triumphs while dealing with the past tragedies, current issues, as well as finding love and renewed friendships. Sycamore Falls, minus the underlying prejudice that is usually present in small towns, is charming and seems like a nice place to vacay!
Sydney's writing is so charming. She is able to draw me in and keep my attention until the end. I laughed out loud, and cried more than once. I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. [by Wyndy]
