Magnus Hansenabout this book: What happens when Father Miller - a bitter, cynical old monk, goes on a walk in downtown Minneapolis? He gets into a fistfight and winds up in jail! After getting bailed out by a fellow monk from the abbey, the two go on a road trip across the American Midwest.
They soon run into Thach - a Buddhist monk who barely speaks English. The three monks form a contentious bond as they drive to Tulsa, Oklahoma, while being chased by forces they struggle to comprehend.
I've always been fascinated by the ascetic lifestyles of Catholic and Buddhist monks. These men are extremely intelligent and hard working. If they applied themselves to any civilian job, they would excel to the top of their fields. Yet they chose a life of poverty; a life devoted to a purpose greater than themselves.
I hope you enjoy this little tale, and I hope you come away from this book with a greater respect for men of the cloth, whatever religion they (or you) might be.
