Barbara Morris, R.Ph.about this book: The Expert's Guide To Strut Your Stuff! tells boomers and newly retired women that they don't have to settle for a traditional, little old lady lifestyle in the retirement years. They don't have to become the stereotypical invisible older woman who envies other older women who have dared to be unconventional.
I worked as a pharmacist until age 76 in a pharmacy with a large senior clientele. What I heard, saw and was told in confidence was an eye opening experience. It taught me that retiring without a plan to stay productive in retirement is a huge mistake for many reasons, not just financial. Traditional retirement is a lifestyle dedicated to leisure and unfortunately, the mind and body are not designed to "retire". The old cliche applies: "Use it or lose it".
I have followed my own nontraditional path and the payoff has been phenomenal. At 85 I publish the monthly Put Old on Hold Journal and e-Magazine. For fun I build websites. I live a fun and exciting lifestyle that so many women could enjoy if only they knew what it takes. I want older women to know what I know and if they choose to follow my lead, they will remain youthful and independent.
The hardest part about writing the book was trying not to offend retirees who are enjoying traditional retirement. While I believe I have found better way to live the mature years, I understand it's not for everyone. We all have different goals and aspirations. Live and let live!
